February is probably most well-known for Valentine’s Day. I enjoy celebrating the day with my wife by bringing her flowers, candy, or cards decorated with red hearts. After all, romance is what Valentine's Day is all about, right?

Well, the origin of this holiday really isn't romantic at all.  The man named Valentine was a priest in Rome during the reign of emperor Claudias. The emperor made an edict that prohibited the marriage of young people.

Happy New Year!  We are excited about all that 2013 holds.  This is a time of awakening!  I encourage you to listen to what God is saying in this season.  Allow your spirit to be awakened to the things God is doing and releasing in this time.

January is a time when many of us make New Year’s Resolutions.  Usually these “resolutions” are well intentioned wishes for some form of self-improvement, such as: “I will exercise more.”; or “I will read my Bible more.”  But resolution is really a much stronger concept than this use implies.

Christmas is the time when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.  However, Christmas has also become a worldwide event celebrating Christian values like family, giving, peace, and joy but mostly without including Jesus. Some Christian leaders have decried this secularization of Christmas and advocated a spiritually purer version or decided not to participate at all. Others seem to just go with the flow and use the opportunity to spread the Gospel while people are at least somewhat aware of Jesus as the “reason for the season.”
